Be Bright!

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

071609-andrew-marc-coat-400Fall/Winter is usually when we reach towards our staple black, navy or brown wool coats to brave the cold – but stop! This winter we have said bye-bye to black coats.  (And any other dark neutral color)

Color has been infused into our outerwear and thank goodness for it!  Dare you to find a black coat without it’s fruity colored counterpart lurking nearby.  Belted and found in bright fuchsia, yellow, green, orange – think fruit basket colors!

I’ve always loved the structure of ‘Andrew Marc‘ outerwear and he is right on-trend with this gorgeous teal version of the bright coat.

How to wear it?  Let it be your statement and don’t compete with it.  Keep bright colors to outerwear and leave the rest of your outfit neutral – black, navy and beige underneath highlight these coats best.  Keep belt tied tight to cinch the waist and your scarves and gloves are best also neutral.  Come across a fabulous 3/4 sleeve version? – why not pair with a killer pair of elbow length gloves.

Winter is depressing enough as it is so why not be bright and fabulous throughout it?

Glitterati: Erika Peña FAB SUGAR  (read full article)

While most 18-year-olds have no idea what they want to do with their lives, jewelry designer Erika Peña, on her 18th birthday, moved from Puerto Rico to New York City to attend Parsons School of Design. And that is where her adventure began.

In the Big Apple, her focus was fashion design. There, she worked with many designers like Donna Karan and Josie Natori. Soon after, Erika launched a clothing line called "epe." It was during this time of collaborating with various designers that she launched the Erika Peña jewelry Line.

And it Was all Yellow COUTURE IN THE CITY (read full article)

Yellow is by no means a popular color historically when it comes to fashion…it’s a difficult pigment for most to pull off.

However, if you have a great glow from a summer tan, then this is the perfect time to try out this trend. Think that you are too pale for yellow? Not so…if you are fair, then opt for darker shades of yellow and you may be pleasantly surprised that it won’t wash you out. Don’t be afraid to try out all different shades to see what works best for you.

How to Match Your Shirt and Tie OMIRU (read full article)

Sovereign Beck Beetles TieGenerally, a tie should either totally match the shirt, like when you buy those tie/shirt combo’s at Kmart, or it shouldn’t match at all.  I most often go with light pink, light blue or white…the safe route.

My design partner, Will, is a bit more risqué with his tie/shirt combos.  Truthfully, though, I really can’t lay down any hard and fast rules, since it all depends on what the wearer is capable of pulling off.  And if you can match a patterned shirt with a patterned tie, you’re doing something right!

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

Spring 2007Why haven’t I play by play’d the recent NY Fashion Week? So many blogs were rehashing the same thing about Spring fashion, and if you want the epitome of photo coverage go to the style.com bible.

But mainly because when I look out my window to the sea of fall leaves exploding into gold colors as I snuggle in my new fall sweater with a cup ‘o chai. Why would I want to write or even think about spring?

And as a reader you can’t rush out to stores to get any of it? So doesn’t it just seem plain mean to tease you about something you can’t have for six more months? Well for you fashion sadists that "have to know" – here’s a Spring Teaser of what "The it Lists" expects to be Spring 2007 ~ Top Ten Runway Predictions… (more…)
