Olympic “it” Wrap List

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Tomorrow we’re back to our regular broadcasting. Until then here’s our Olympic Wrap up!

Wow- Time flies!! That cliche holds true when you’re having fun for the past 17 days of the Winter Games. Vancouver was on cloud nine. Vancouver & Whistler had been injected with a large dose energy while the spirit of the entire nation sang louder than ever. For most Vancouverites, it’s time for recovery. Our throats are sore from all the cheering & screaming. Daily diet consisted of beer, nachos, and chicken fingers. And of course, the lack of sleep as SO much was happening in SO little time. Here are some highlights:

- Canada’s win for hockey gold. The city went nuts over the win, and walking around Vancouver was amazing with everyone high-fiving (even the cops) and horns honking for hours. Even the trains rang with singing: Oh Canada!

Quebec House: Much milder ambiance than the German house. A place to have $10 Quebec beer and see amateur Cirque du Soleil performers on the stage. At one point, a man dressed as a lion in a leopard leotard was getting wiped by another man. Someone in the crowd blurted “this reminds me of gay porn.” Touché!

Canvas Lounge: Different sponsors like Vitamin Water, Le Vieux Pin, Ferrari Maserati hosted one night that would attracted a golden guest lists, as Olympians like Alex Bilodeau, Maelle Ricker, Ashleigh McIvor would head down to the lounge and celebrate their gold medal win. Woo hoo!

Vancouver 2010 Olympics

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Excuse us while life is interrupted by this thing called the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.

So our little, big city of Vancouver has been infiltrated by the world. Living and working in the heart of the Olympics has been an adventure. Everyone seemed to hold their breath wondering what these weeks would be like: it’s been crazy busy – our team apologizes for irregular blog posts, but all of us have been beyond stretched with all the extra work unexpected work the Olympics have brought.

Oly_Torah2.png

Speaking for myself alone (Shelley) my day job has entailed doing the publicity behind launching the first 3D Video Game that works without the goofy glasses. It’s part of some amazing tech being presented out of the Ontario Pavilion. And it’s been the reason I’ve been running on too many nights with too little sleep!!

And if we aren’t working we’re trying to catch Olympic fever! Everything from Birk’s brunch schmoozing with the likes of Lisa Tant (editor Fashion Magazine)…wandering the seawall….pyro & fireworks nightly…free concerts…the medal presentation (Victory Ceremony) with highlights of Torah Bright getting Gold for Australia (women’s snowboard/halfpipe) & Deadman’s Theory concert (Leila & I caught this one together). Or a fav! the ziptrek at Robson Square that is usually lined up 5 blocks by 8am. Speaking of lineups – at all hours a good 2-3 block line up to get into the Bay to buy those coveted Olympic red mittens (if you can get them).

One more week and we’ll be back to normal – until then enjoy these snaps of Vancouver during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Grrrr….mean hackers

Friday, December 4th, 2009

We’re back up and running. Someone with not enough time on their hands hacked into our site and started spamming our fans. Turns out since The It Lists has been around so long – you’d think that was a good thing – that the security it’s built with just couldn’t keep up with some of the issues.  We think we’ve got this fixed, thanks for your patience. And know that we would never just drop off the blogosphere like that. ;)

Test “it”

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Picture 5.pngFor our sisters over the US border there’s a new ‘must do’ before you start sleeping with that new hottie in your life.

Los Angeles County has launched a free service to get tested for STDs. Gals can order an at-home test for chlamydia and gonorrhea. Send the test in and get your results within a week, without the embarrassment of a nasty clinic waiting room. In LA county order at dontthinkknow.org

A few sister programs have launched in different cities, so to find out if your city has one check out iwantthekit.org

Naughty Nurse? Naughty Doggie?

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Picture 15.pngTurns out that sometimes pups just want to slut out too. I’ve complained before about being bored with Halloween costumes because it’s naughty nurse, teacher, school girl, witch, insert stereotype here.Picture 11.png

But this made me laugh! Spoiledrottendoggies has a the trashiest collection of dog clothes you’ve ever seen. From school girl to little bo peep, to french maid (I mean pooch). I wonder if Paris Hilton has discovered this site yet, bet she’s got one of each slutty dog costume – and not just for Halloween.

Bad girl, puppy dog, bad girl!

No Rest for the Wicked – In London

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Wicked.JPGThe It Lists is on the road, I’m in London for a few weeks…and then Toronto for the Toronto International Film Festival. Thanks goodness for Nicole and Crystal who’ll help me keep posts coming your way in between the ones that I trickle in.

The reason I’m in London is pretty exciting. In my day job (yes life beyond blogging) I’m a publicist, and one of my clients (and now also friend) is cast as one of the new pro-dancers on Strictly Come Dancing (the UK version of Dancing with the Stars). I’ll be sharing more on her soon (and maybe a few of our adventures when I can – for now everything is very secret), as she is definitely an “it” girl you need to know more about.

I barely got settled when I had to shake off the jetlag! 5th row tickets to the theatre production of Wicked the Musical. An amazing show with stunning costumes and a great cast. In fact after we joined two cast mates for apres-show cocktails at the Molton House. Today…this girl is tired.

Escapism “it” – Holidays!

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

gold-digger.pngHey mon, greetings from Cayman. So this afternoon I went swimming with about 20 stingrays . Despite the awkward jokes about Steve Irwin, this was the highlight of my trip so far. Although I’m still not sure how I feel about being slimed.

Now I’m going to join our crew and marinade conch that we went snorkeling for, and chase that down with some mudslides at Rum Point.

Next week…Miami Glam with lots of cabana time at the Miami Mondrian Hotel’s Sunset Lounge. We’ll call that part of the holiday ‘research’ and I’ll share details of the ‘it’ things I find on South Beach.

Britney Spears Hotbox in Vancouver

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

britney vancouver.pngBless my city. Bless Twitter. Bless Perez Hilton.

I didn’t make it the Britney Spear’s Circus concert, but thanks to an amusing round of Twitter updates got the 4-11 on her Vancouver concert drama because of pot smoke.

FionaForbesBrit did 4 songs and left the stage…she’s been gone half an hour. She left half way through Piece of Me. Last GM place riot was GnR. Epic.

buzzbishopRT @hosea24hours: Does a Britney Spears concert riot consists of glitter and butterflies?

Oh snap!  Britney Spears, a smoker, stopped her concert  at GM Place Vancouver concert because it was too smoky. After almost 40 minutes she came back on. Buzz is that she was afraid the secondhand pot smoke would get on her hair and mess up the random drug tests she has to do to keep custody of her kids. Ouch.

Perez Hilton got the exclusive, official statement from the Spears camp: “We want to apologize to all the fans who attended our Vancouver show tonight for the brief pause in Britney’s set. Crew members above the stage became ill due to a ventilation issue.” Sources tell us it really was a safety issue. “We were concerned for the lighting guys and everyone else working on the show.” If one of those guys up above got dizzy or sick from all that pot smoke….it wouldn’t have been pretty.

Social Overload “it”

netvibes.pngHaving trouble keeping tabs on your own life – Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Yahoo, and the zillion other tech outreaches it takes to have a social life.

The newest trend is not yet another social network site, but rather free sources that help you aggregate (mash or merge) them into one place. You log in once and

There are tons of social networking aggregators showing up, but the one that’s keeping my life more sane is Netvibes.com.

Netvibes is a free web service that brings together your favorite media sources and online services. Everything that matters to you — blogs, news, weather, videos, photos, social networks, email and much more — is automatically updated every time you visit your page. Just one log in pace!

A few others worth mention are mylifebrand, chi.mp, ProfileFly, Flock.com, and more.

Creepy Cool in Vancouver

Van Fog from Cypress.jpg

Vancouver fog bridge2.png

I don’t know how cold your hometown is, but Vancouver winters are normally pretty balmy. Maybe two weeks total of snow, and lots of rain.

Not this year! Crazy snow that this city didn’t know what to do with, and when the snow finally went away we had 17 days of fog. It was beautiful and creepy...take a look at my three favorite pictures.
