We may remember Alicia Silverstone, as that teen with a  crazy crush in Clueless. Since then she’s doing more than just acting – she’s saving the world one pretty face at a time.

As an outspoken animal rights activist and enthusiastic vegan, living in Cali in her eco-friendly home, shared with her husband and rescued animals, teaming up with EcoTools is a natural transition. This limited-editon, EcoTools By Alicia Silverston is an eco-friendly, natural line of beauty products and bags.

EcoTools are made of hemp and vegetable dyes, and make-up brushes are made from recycled metal and bamboo. They are packaged in post-consumer waste paper with eco-tips on them. PLUS 1% of each sale is donated to the planet. I read she even spilled soy sauce on her brushes, threw them in the washer and they were still in tip-top shape. Clumsy-friendly, eco-friendly and wallet-friendly!

It’s only half way thru winter and I’m already so tired of feeling like a dry crocodile. We often get goodies to test to help with that just that very problem. And I was surprised that the bottle I keep on reaching for is from Vaseline.

It seems like dark nails have been in forever now, but more and more it’s becoming a faux pas to sport a dull black without any underlying tone of color. 

Blacks with navy undertones, burgundy and violets have been making waves for a while now.  With the release of Chanel’s Jade Green polish inadvertently the dark green trend was ferociously unleashed as many thought this shade was better suited for spring and wanted something darker for fall.

It doesn’t look like the black trend in makeup and nail polish is going anywhere and that’s not a bad thing!

MAC Cosmetics has a new line called Style Black and what’s great about it (besides the name) is it offers that dark look that is so pop, but in other intense shades that are almost as dark for those who don’t feel like their complexion can pull of the harsh black.

M.A.C. Style Black has some great mineral eye shadows, nail lacquers, lipsticks and glosses in super deep violet, green, navy and bronze.  They’re so great chances are you’ll want to try them before you reach for the staple Style ‘Black’!

The line also has a Volcanic Ash thermal masque and exfoliator (getting great reviews for it’s deep cleaning).

Deepen the drama and give this line a try – it’s worth it.

My tresses are impressed with Moroccanoil. I got a sample at TIFF from a swag bag or something, and it’s now become a regular part of my daily hair routine.

Morrocanoil Treatment is an ultra-light formula hair oil that is absorbed by your hair instantly. Even though it’s an oil it’s not greasy. Just leaves your damp hair easy to comb through – great detangler, bright and shiny, and silky soft. Love the naturalizing it does to my blow dryer and flat iron damage.

There’s a whole line of masks, to shine spray and shampoo. So far the oil is all I’ve tried, but excited to sample more.

Mint nail polish. Well note quite mint, but rather Jade that is. It’s Chanel’s latet must have, “it” for nails. We teased you back in the summer that the new “it” nail polish colour would be this one.

Who What Wear tells us where the pale green nail trend began: The fingernail fad began where most polish trends start—on the Chanel runway—and this latest craze is no different. Peter Philips, the Global Creative Director of Chanel Makeup, originally created the fingertip tint as a one-off for the fashion house’s F/W 09 show.

But it’s now up for retail because so many beauty trendsters, fashionistas and general Chanel fans all starting asking for the pale opaque Le Vernis Nail Color in Jade.

• Max Azaria collabs with Miley Cyrus for Walmart. Nothing over $20.
• LC Lauren Conrad is now in stores at Kohl’s. Nothing over $60.
• Avril Lavigne has a new scent called Black Star Eau de Parfum (I’ve heard something about chocolate…hmmm).
• Reese Witherspoon has a new Avon scent called Bloom. Not big on the flowery smells but can’t see Reese doing something too bad.

When a girl is on the go…go…go…and her tresses are a bit tired, what to do?! On my travels I’ve discovered a new friend – Oscar Blandi Pronto – Dry Shampoo. I’ve used a few dry shampoo products like this, but this one has this amazing lemony citrus smell to it that really does make you feel fresh washed…even though you’re not.

- Natural Rice, Oat and tapioca starches cleanse hair (the stuff that does the trick)
- Tea tree Oil helps nourish scalp (good)
- Lemon verbena fragrance provide fresh and clean scent (like this!)

I picked up a little bottle at Sephora. And as much as I’d much prefer to a full on wash this one buys you some time, while keeping your glam’ quota up.

I cannot begin to express my excitement over the O.P.I.  Matte Collection! Seriously the most statement nail tips that you will rock this season.

I heard about the matte trend last season – buzz that matte grey will be the new black for fall & frankly I wasn’t sold.  Nails are supposed to be shiny and pretty right?  WRONG. There is something about having matte nails that is so couture, but I had to see it first hand (no pun) to understand.  The color pops more when it’s matte – it’s even brighter!?!  Weird I know, but I promise you it’s true.

O.P.I. used their most demanded shades for this matte collection which just hit stores.  They re-released: Russian Navy, Lincoln Park After Dark, You Don’t Know Jacques!, Alpine Snow, La Paz-Itively Hot and Gargantuan Green Grape.  I want them all!

Tip: Do not last as long on the nail as the regular O.P.I. finishes = re-do more often but they’re well worth it. Stay far away from any base or top coats and lotions on your nails when applying as it alters the matte effect.

I’m having fun playing around with blue nail polish. Blue has been big since fall runways, but I find that blue always looks a little, um, pasty on most people unless you have some tan. So now that I do – bring it on. Tonight I’ve got an outfit planned with light, aqua print sundress and turquoise accessories – so why not add in the turquoise nails with Sally Hansen #23.

On the more original spectrum for names (I hate when companies only use digits) and shades of blue, I’m going to rotate with Loreal’s ProBrights ‘Electric Blue (a deep bright blue), and OPI’s new Paige Denim pairing, No Room for the Blues (a perfect in between blue).

Heads up! rumor Chanel’s next ‘it color’ to be released this October is a mint jade nail polish. Pretty close to sea foam green….jury is not in on this one yet.
