George Gina & Lucy – Bag “it”

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

george-gina-lucy.pngThe last few weeks I’ve practically lived out of my purse. Thank goodness a friend snagged at the Sundance Swag lounge, this great George Gina & Lucy handbag.

My score is kind of like the “Sexy Strappy” purse, but a combo of nylon and canvas in a seafoamy green. I love, love the big front buckle that looks like some chunky seatbelt. And all the pockets – almost too many because I’m always forgetting what pocket what is in. But they do help me organize.

Kinda like this one, but not really.

GEORGE GINA & LUCY was founded in Germany in 2004. GG&L demonstrates an eye for detail and functionality, allowing for creative features such as zipper pockets, compartments and buckles along with their signature carabineer-esque clasp (aka the chunky seatbelt).

One of their many cool factors stems from each bag has it’s own serial number you can enter online to check the bag on the bag’s authenticity.

I’ve actually tried to rotate out of this bag a few times since getting, but keep ending up back with it in toe through my Olympic adventures because of it’s Olympic size -  loving my GG&L.

Footwear Power

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

shoe dekkori.pngYesterday we shared about Shoe Jewels – now we found another cool way to shake up your shoe wardrobe…

Between juggling career, drinks with friends (or with that cute guy), hitting up the gym, and attending networking events , there’s sometimes zero time left to change, refresh, and re-style. Hate to say it, but never enough hours in a day. How to deal?

Footwear adornments by Dekkori, will help you kick your style up a notch, in less than 30 seconds. Founder Stephanie Kim designs shoe accessories to temporary transform any pair of shoes into a completely new style. One leg cover, Charisma, comes in lambskin and will give you that sexy knee-high look. Other dekkori pieces that’ll revolutionize your perception of footwear include midrise boots to the gladiator-esque look.

Shoe Jewel “It”

Monday, January 4th, 2010

shoe jewels.pngFrom thigh-high boots, to chunky neck jewelery, accessories are the “it” trend this season. What about accessories for your accessories?

Shoe Jewelery has been popping up tons on runways to fashion blogs everywhere. With good reason:

1. They are cool.
2. Fun & inexpensive way to spruce up your wardrobe.
3. Breathe new life to pumps, that may have found their way to the back of your closet.

Simple or rock star crazy! But keep in mind, like any accessory, it should compliment your outfit.

For subtle and simple: add a thin chain, long enough for the chain to loosely drape around your ankle, (Lanvin’s SS2010 collection featured beautiful, gold chains); or feminine and edgy, add a bright coloured feather shoe clip.
For that bad ass rock star look: layers of chains of different sizes, on a pair of ankle boots will do the trick. LitterSF has amazing designs (The “Jay Walks has mini bullets on them!).

Now, the land of the forgotten pumps is no longer. And all the shoes rejoiced.

Ribbing “it”

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

An even heavier than norm’ social calendar has me trying to stretch out my holiday dresses – a bit of challenge, but just a few more to go! My easy answer is accessories.

secret fall 2009.pngSome good old sparkles usually do that, especially with all the sequins this season, but don’t forget tights and nylons - especially from the Secret Legwear Fall Collection.*

A bursts of color might be one way of getting some attention, but if you truly want to step into the spotlight, opt for pretty patterns.  F/Winter 2009 you can add slinky glamour to an outfit with the Molten Gloss tight in Bronze or Silver, while the Black Crochet tight & Sparkle Diamond Mesh tight will take an outfit from plain to perfect in no time flat. My fav pick of the collection is the Horizontal Rib tight (the far right). Something about this ribbing adds real style, but is still demure.

*I know it’s December and I’m sharing Fall styles, but I just checked my local mall today and they’re in stock (on sale even).

Go Bananas for this Bag

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Love everything there is about Gucci! but every time I walk into a Gucci store I inevitably walk out as I can never pick a bag… I always want them all. Forget want, I might not be able to ‘live’ without a bag from their latest collection!

gucci bagAs if this bag didn’t make your heart melt enough – check out the holiday story that goes with it:

In a further expansion of Gucci’s work with UNICEF they have commissioned Vanity Fair fashion director and illustrator Michael Roberts to create a children’s book ‘ Snowman in Africa‘.

It can be found exclusively in Gucci stores until the end of the year, with 100% of the $25 retail price going toward UNICEF.  The collection to accompany the book features these amazing bags, charms, gift cards, and leather goods and Gucci will donate 25% of the retail value to UNICEF as well.

All of a sudden that huge splurge doesn’t seem so selfish.

Three’s a Charm

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

tiffany shadesTiffany & Co. always knows what a girl wants…and now how to charm her.

Every woman needs more than one pair of shades (or anything) and the new “Three’s a Charm” sunglasses from Tiffany’s will keep us happy and our bank account too!  Instead of having to go buy a new pair of shades every summer invest in these which have interchangeable charms to keep them looking different as often as you like.

These sunglasses come with three pairs of charms featuring a Tiffany heart, letter ‘T’ and a Tiffany 1937 circle charm.

Poolside to snowside glamor at it’s finest.

Fighting the Winter Blues in Style

Friday, December 4th, 2009

lace-gloves-phillip-lim-1-02-12-09Philip Lim 3.1’s Leather with Lace Overlay Driving Gloves are perfect for frosty days. The signs are all here:  frosted windows, zero degree temperatures, cloudy foggy breathes outdoors. Winter has arrived.

As daylight decreases, your mood gets a little darker, but I found the remedy for winter blues: Chic Leather Lace Gloves. Lined with silk, and detailed with a cute wrist snap, these gloves will take you from day wear to night wear with ease.

Only colour avail is ‘Rosie’, a colour which I love, because it’s an easy neutral colour to go with  lots of items already hanging in my closet. Plus, it’s a colour not often seen on winter gloves and I think this colour of leather will wear well, developing unique markings and creases that is all ‘your’ own.  Who’s scared of frostbite now?!

To Sac or not to Sac

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

NLT2AKM_mnWhen I first heard of neck sacks I thought they were the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen – why wear a neck sac when you could wear an amazing necklace and here’s a thought… carry a handbag???

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this up and coming trend neck sacks were designed for days when you want to skip carrying a handbag so you wear this pouch necklace with a dangling sack on the end and keep your goods in there instead.   I personally carry a tiny messenger bag on days that I want to be hands free but… I may have found one I actually like!?!?

Nanette Lepore has a great little cashmere knit cocktail dress called ‘Devi’ that actually comes with a beaded neck sack!  It’s genious if you really think about it – when is the one time that your purse drives you the craziest?  For me it’s when i’m out dancing hands down.  And this one more resembles a necklace than a sack so you still look super cute.  I don’t know if I’ll ever fully buy into the whole neck sack trend – butIi’ve already bought this dress!

Hooded into Fall

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

snood.pngI’m loving the snood (hooded scarf) as the next fall accessory I must have. Okay on a cold, rainy day in London I am finally in the mood to write something ‘fall’ like. But all I can say is that I hope in North America we call it something better.

In the ‘old day’ a snood was a Brit term for a hairnet. But in today’s terms it’s a tubular neck warmer pull down over the neck like a scarf…or over the head like a hood. A hooded scarf!

Burberry Prorsum and Missoni (shown here) are just two of the designers that hooded up models on the Fall 2009 runways.

Please post comments here if you find some dealio sources on this trend. So far I’ve just seen the pricey options in the UK.

Snake Trend – Get Bitten

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Picture 4.pngGet bitten by the latest snake trend. Not snake skin, but the icons of the snake itself are slithering into fashion.

The last time I noticed alot of animal icons in the trends it was owls, before that one it was butterflies. I wonder what this means that now I’m seeing snakes. Not snakes on a plane, but snakes on purse clasps, shoes, jewellery (as a gorgeous cuff), imprinted on t-shirts, and twirled on gowns.

Sass & Bide have some fun t-shirts, and I love these amazing Christian Dior shoes that are laced up by a gold cobra (sorry couldn’t tack down a pic). More to come!

Pack “it” Up – Summer Travels

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

ella moss athena.pngAh, summer is all about getaways – whether exotic trips or the weekend impromptu lover retreat. So here are just a few must-haves for any trip.

That easy dress that can be dressed up or down, or nails it just on it’s own. I love this Ella Moss Athena jersey dress. The cowl neck is sexy, but the front pockets are what wins me.

mytagalongs.pngJane Marvel puddle jumper bag - I like the teal stripes. It’s a size just right for the weekend trip this is perfect, or as a carry-on bag for bigger trips.

And a a great addition is the Mytagalongs travel kit which includes a sunhat to go, witty bag tags; but best is the plush blanket you unzip to unfold – it’s got a pocket for a mobile phone or MP3, inflattable pillow that slips into the blanket case, and a sleep mask that has velcro messages to swap (like I wake for food, do not disturb).

H&M – Jimmy Choo Coming Soon

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

jimmy-choo-for-hmWhen it comes to designer collaborations other retailers may try as they might but H&M will always reign King (or Queen) of the collaboration.

With names like: Roberto Cavalli, Stella McCartney, Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor & Rolf and most recently Matthew Williamson under their belt – H&M obviously does a big collaboration or doesn’t do one at all.

For their first collabo with an accessories brand they decide to team with British powerhouse - Jimmy Choo.  Keeping with the staple Jimmy Choo glamorous & sexy style, these shoes, accessories and handbags will be no different.  The surprise twist – it will also include a men’s collection of shoes, bags, & accessories!

The collection will launch Novemeber 14 in 200 H&M stores accross the world.  If you’ve learned nothing from past collaborations, know this: people will sleep on the street to get these.  Go early or don’t go at all – as I predict this collection could easily be sold out by November 15.

Time to Fake “it”

Monday, July 6th, 2009

unwatchSometimes I dress a lil’ ghetto. Sometimes I like to rock the electro bop, or dress up. So check out this new accessory that doesn’t miss a beat no matter what mood you’re in.

Denise Reytan has taken the concept of the watch to a new level with this very cool  T1mepeace.’  Its sleek design looks like a watch, but is merely just the outline. I call it the un-watch because the symbolism behind it reminds you to stop watching the time and start living your life!

It also is the un-watch because you can really wear it with virtually every time piece of clothing you have and it will fit, making this piece truly Timeless.

I Heart Trends

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

i amI was given a heart shaped locket for my 30th birthday this year. I always wear this really cool vintage heart shaped ring. Now I’m just loving hearts for jewelery.

Gucci has heart shapes all over their on their new line of bags. Hearts are main logos for this new fashion social awareness ad campaign for the Argentina clothing company Ona Saez promoting “I am what I am”…I am seeing a trend here. I heart trends. I heart hearts.

locket

Ps- You all know snake skin is in, from Shelley’s earlier post this month, and there is a heart on this Gucci messenger bag. I’ve mentioned 4 trends in this post. I heart fashion. I heart theitlists.
