Knitted, ribbed, printed, and more…get your veil beanie on. Veils started popping up in plain day courtesy of Jil Sander‘s 2012 collection at Fashion Week. Today – in 2013 -2014 Fall/Winter – the veiled beanies are a top trend because the sporty/comfy style of a beanie is a perfect marriage with the posh, mysterious elegant way of a sheer veil.
One of my faves right now is this BCBGeneration Winter Veil Beanie.
P.S. There are a ton of DIY ideas out there (like this one).
This is for all my girls who really hate those tops and dresses that make it almost impossible to hide our bra straps. Well designer Christine Ko brilliantly devised a Kaiio a sparkly solution–gorgeous crystal bra straps you won’t want to hide!
Kaiio offers gorgeous one-of-a-kind crystal straps that replace traditional bra straps and become the perfect accessory to add a little sparkle to your Holiday Season.
Three years ago, Christine Ko, founder of Kaiio, made her first crystal jeweled strap solely to give her work uniform a little something extra. After numerous compliments and customers asking to buy her pieces she became determined to launch her own company to share her sparkle with the rest of the world. In August 2013, Christine Ko and Quinton Van Der Burgh partnered to create a dazzling line of crystal jeweled straps known as Kaiio. From humble beginnings, Kaiio was destined to be the finishing touch to the little black dress.
“There’s no such thing as too much sparkle…it gives women the option to add a wow factor to a little black dress or a hint of glam to a blouse and jeans.” Designer, Christine Ko says.
No wonder I’m over the moon excited for Deighton Cup, Vancouver’s own version of the Kentucky Derby at Hastings racecourse.
Growing up, my fave movie was My Fair Lady. One of the most iconic scenes of this classic was Professor Higgins’ and Elisa’s day at the horse races. Every hat, dress, glove, and umbrella – equally eccentric and elegant.
The indulgence tantamount with the era of Gatsby will flood Hastings. All the stylish ladies and dapper gents will be vying for ‘Style Stakes’ (best dressed) to have their name imprinted on the coveted Deighton Cup. It’s all about the hat:
- Goorin Brothers in Yaletown has an amazing selection of dainty fascinators to show-stopping wide-brimmed hats. They can help you pick a hat that best suits your face shape and makes you feel the most comfortable.

“…One of the summer’s must-attend, see-and-be seen fashion and social events” – Fred Lee, The Province; Vancouver Courier
“The most stylish event of the summer” – Huffington Post
- Use quirky pieces to create your look – add a feather, jewels or scarf for drama. Dominique of Hive Mind Millinery offers “Fascinator Parties” where you can even build your own.
- Take a cue from last year’s Style Stakes winner – Erin Cebula – and have fun with your look! Use pops of colour in your accessories to create a show-stopping look.

If you haven’t treated yourself to a brilliant new pair of summer shades it’s still not too late! The colourful mirrored sunglass trend is back – but don’t worry they’re a lot more attractive than the outrageous styles that were oh so popular in the 80s.
From the various styles I’ve seen so far this summer, I have to admit my favourite shades are the Crystal Green Mirror Ray-Ban Original Aviator Sunglasses. The second I saw them on my favourite style blogger, Chiara Ferragni, of The Blonde Salad, I was sold.
British designer Stella McCartney has officially launched an optical collection – and let me just say, these frames are fantastic! They are sure to give you that perfect amount of modern chic and trendy with a great variety of colours such as burgundy, black, teal and tortoise.
With specs like these it will be a sure way to turn heads as you run your errands and have your co-workers envious wishing they had worse vision. Rock them with your cutest patent flats, solid bright trousers, and a floral blouse to the office. I wear glasses myself and would opt for the Spotty Tortoise frame or the always classic Round Dark Tortoise, both for $230.
It gets even better, Stella is a huge advocate for sustainable living, and shows us this through many of her collections; there is no exception when it came to this optical line. Using raw materials from natural origins, this line is made from over 50% natural resources. Talk about geek-chic, go Stella!

Designer Anna Sui and Tumi Luggage have teamed up to bring us some trendy and colourful travel gear for all of you jet-setting ladies. Quintessential carry-ons, shoe bags and even iPhone cases ensure your travels are every bit comfortable and safe as they are chic.
Anna Sui is known for her wild patterns and prints and this collaboration is no different. Get ready to travel in style while carrying this hot collection. Earlier this year Anna Sui said during an interview with ELLE Magazine that it is her list of far-flung destinations and the romance of travel that helped to inspire the collection.
Patterns from her own clothing line gave inspiration to Tumi and Anna when deciding on eye-catching summer prints for your suitcases with floral being an obvious choice. I personally love this floral case, with it’s striped inside — and who would go without the matching floral laptop bag? Which piece would you choose for your next romantic getaway?

This chic bonnet Kookn Kap keeps the odor out of the hair and the hair out of the food!
This “it” gal is all about cooking and baking. You can find me spending all my evenings trying new recipes and the weekends testing them out with friends while entertaining. But the one thing I can never stand is the smell of cooking in my hair. I have no time to get a blowout or get ready before guests come; that was until I was introduced to a fabulous new concept.
When I make curries or BBQ I put on the cute pink Kookn Kap and kook away. They are cute little chef hats in pink and white with fun slogans. My fave is the “bitch in the kitch”.
I love this trendy version of a chef hat, so get yours and start Bitchin in the Kitchen!
In January 2013 it was announced that Gucci Timepieces and Jewelry were coming together with Chinese actress and Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations, Li Bingbing, on a new Collection – an eco-friendly limited edition Bamboo watch collection.
Each watch is handmade, as if that isn’t impressive enough; they are using bezel, a lightweight bamboo and have also created a bracelet to complete the collection. The bracelet is made of bamboo and Tagua nut, which is a vegetable ivory as opposed to using animal tusks.
You can purchase this watch online at Gucci, choosing from the three styles available. The collection is beautiful and simple with much attention to detail like the “Responsible Life” script you will find engraved into each piece. I think the silver accents the naturalness of the bamboo perfectly, making this piece a luxury watch must-have to keep wrapped around your pretty little wrist.

This “it” accessory gives the simplicity of the clutch purse a whole new meaning. When many of us ladies turn to the clutch as a way of cutting back on the number of items we haul around in our purse, this new trend of the clear clutch will help you make the perfect item selections.
In the majority of these clutches, as you see, there is no area in the bag to keep something hidden. But this also allows you to have a little fun. Minimizing to your cell phone, a lipstick, small wallet, sunglasses, and a set of keys, with perfect placement will have people talking about how cute your new clear clutch is.
Or if you’re looking for a less bold version of this trend, try placing your contents in a fun coloured or printed pouch, that you then place into the clear clutch.
If you have an uncanny taste for fashion then you need to visit Valery Demure’s virtual vintage store. Demure has carefully curated an e-shop that includes vintage and contemporary jewelry and accessories. The E-space is a gallery and collection of uncommon beauty. We are intrigued by her street style shots, which capture common, everyday people such as chefs, artists and DJs in her collection.
The featured Leather Harnessed Clutch handbag is the ultimate statement piece; we like to think of it as wearable art. It is the perfect accessory to all the leather and lace trends we are seeing. And Demure even refers to it as a bondage piece – way to get kinky!
We are especially coveting the Stiletto Clutch which is exactly what is sounds like – a clutch shaped like a stiletto! So for all the shoe gals out there – this is the perfect accessory to give allure to your look.
Wooden you know (groan) we’d score a cool sunglass trend at the Know Show in Vancouver last month. It’s only the best industry trade show of lifestyle brands.
In between all the oddly designed socks (seriously, watch for that as a trend) we came across Finaly & Co Sunglasses. I found myself first unsure of how I’d incorporate this wooden accessory into my daily wear. But I quickly realized this would be my new staple piece - Gotta have “it”.
Finaly & Co glasses are hand-made and ultra-elegant with each piece being unique due to the grain of the wood. In a world of mass production having a one-of-a-kind piece is more than appealing to me.
If your style is to live a life against the grain, I recommend these “it” glasses as you’ll never be caught beside someone rocking the same pair. With these you can be walking on sunshine in the midst of winter in style.
