Before there was TLC or Destiny’s Child there was The Go Go’s. And in my brooding, but optimistic, teen years I played their music over and over. And over. They’re dubbed ‘the most successful’ girl group.
Today marks the 58th birthday for lead singer, Belinda Carlisle (ICYMI: Madonna also turned 58 just yesterday).
After almost four decades, the Go-Go’s — Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock and Jane Wiedlin — are calling it quits after one last farewell tour that landed them at Toronto, Massey Hall.
I was part of that audience singing, reliving that teen angst and inner rock girl, and singing the bare-footed, Belinda happy birthday. They encored with their version of Miley Cyrus’s Wrecking Ball (we’ll post a video clip on our Facebook).
Jane Wiedlin was always my fave Go Go. Not only did I relate to her spunky personality and style, but she penned some of my fave Go Go songs. But what I loved most about the concert last night was seeing the strong chemistry between Wiedlin and Carlisle.
Need an 80’s fix? I highly recommend you follow my lead and download my fave album of theirs, “Talk Show“.
