Nike has previously released City Pack shoes celebrating other international locations like London, Paris, New York and Tokyo. So it’s only due that Toronto gets its own shoe.
“The 6” is getting its own shoe.
This is Nike’s love letter to the city of Toronto. Designed by Erin Cochrane, a Canadian native, the Nike The Six sneakers have a wide, white sole; a waxed lace, and black, military grade leather body to “combat cold, wet Canadian winters.”
Illustrations of Toronto’s iconic CN Tower are marked on each of the sole’s heels and “The 6” is emblazoned on the inside of the tongue. A Maple Leaf design is also featured on the tongue’s exterior.
We’ll give Drake credit for Toronto’s “the 6ix” knick name to become engraved in pop culture history. However, many people think the knick name references Toronto’s 416 and 647 area codes. Wrong! #6ix really references the six boroughs that amalgamated to create Toronto proper (you’ve just been schooled).
The shoes will retail for $165. Now available in Canada at select Toronto-area Nike Sportswear retailers and online at nike.com (U.S. on Dec. 17).
