Libraries are in the middle of a massive disruption and many are looking to technology to enhance their offerings and remain relevant. The Vancouver Public Library is an iconic part of the Vancouver cityscape (the roman architecture is one of my fave buildings downtown), and now the library is set to become a very relevant knowledge hub in the digital age.
VPL will be hosting, TOUCH on Oct 4, 2013, a dynamic new fundraising event for the next evolution of the library. It will unite Vancouver’s most influential digerati and showcase art & technology installations to tease how the VPL Inspiration Lab will change the way we interact with and share knowledge:
- Six installations from a 50 ft serpent and a virtual reality simulation of a retro paper boy…to a sculpture you stand in and hear dead languages cited.
- Performances from Humans and celebrity guest DJ VH1 (Lady Gaga’s opening DJ of four years).
- The Author’s lounge will create an interactive environment for an ongoing narrative throughout the night, with each section featuring an esteemed Vancouver author, collaborating with the general public (Timothy Taylor, Steve Burgess, Jen Sookfong Lee),
- A silent auction of mentoring sessions with leaders like GM of Pixar Canada Amir Nasrabadi, SAP Canada’s Managing Director Kirsten Sutton, Real-Estate Mogul & Art Collector Bob Rennie, and Vancouver Canucks Owner Francesco Aquilini.
Calling all digerati, entrepreneurs, and culture lovers! Tickets & Details Here.
