Ah, summer is all about getaways – whether exotic trips or the weekend impromptu lover retreat. So here are just a few must-haves for any trip.

That easy dress that can be dressed up or down, or nails it just on it’s own. I love this Ella Moss Athena jersey dress. The cowl neck is sexy, but the front pockets are what wins me.

Jane Marvel puddle jumper bag - I like the teal stripes. It’s a size just right for the weekend trip this is perfect, or as a carry-on bag for bigger trips.

And a a great addition is the Mytagalongs travel kit which includes a sunhat to go, witty bag tags; but best is the plush blanket you unzip to unfold – it’s got a pocket for a mobile phone or MP3, inflattable pillow that slips into the blanket case, and a sleep mask that has velcro messages to swap (like I wake for food, do not disturb).

I thought boots were meant to be worn in the fall/winter,  apparently I was wrong.  These days ankle boots are making quite the appearance in this summer.

Peep-toe’s, cut-outs, fringe, suede, zippers, buckles, you name it are all different variations that these summer ankle length booties are accompanied with.  What you would pair a boot with in the summer? the cool thing with this trend is there really is no rule. Skinny jeans, skirts, dresses, capris and even shorts and look equally as flattering with each.

I give props to this ‘Emily Sligback’ from Frye -  incorporate into any outfit with it’s warm color and buckle accent.  If you’ve ever owned a pair of Frye’s you’ll know the quality of their leather is to die for – soft and supple enough that you could wear every day if you wanted too.

It’s been a late start to summer, so if you’ve not already added these summer trends to your closet…what’s stopping you now? here are some of our favs, but also check out WhoWhatWear’s July list too.

• Over-Accessorizing: necklaces, the more you layer on, the better.
• 80’s Eye Makeup: Don’t worry about going too bold with the electric eye shadow colors—your goal is to evoke double-takes.
• Over-Size Glasses: Over the top big.
• Cut-Offs: Cut-off denim shorts are all the rage among hipsters in NYC.
• Eccentricity: Thanks to stars like Lady Gaga, dressing outrageously has never been so far over the edge.
• Neon Fashion: Go for bright colors in your fashion, from glasses to toes, and all the clothes and accessories between.
• Denim: After months of black leggings, jeans are back in, and in a big, blue way.
• Tattered, Torn and Ripped: The more ratty your jeans—or leggings—look, the better this season. Pair them with flat gladiators or daring pumps.
• Maxi Dresses: It’s been decades since dresses have been as in-style as they are this season. Summer 2009 is  all about minis to maxi dresses.

On that note, I picked up this T-Bags silk maxi dress. I’m so hyped to have the right event to wear it at. I’ll work on that!

Clogs? In a time when structure or gorgeous are all over our shoes it’s amazing to see chunky clogs trying be at trend. MaxMara’s Spring 2009 Collection paired them with suits, and I didn’t buy in.

But gold clogs. Hmm, these I would consider…these are kinda cool and bring back highschool memories. But the metallic funk adds a whole new spark to this Swedish shoe. Cape Clogs makes clogs to consider.

You may not have heard of Alexa Chung yet, but she’s an It Brit on the rise. So put her on your radar.

Alexa is a British model-turned-TV presenter, now hosting “The Alexa Chung Show” on MTV. The live daily features celeb talk and live music. And she dawned the Elle UK cover back in October.

The fringe trend is not going anywhere soon.  And it refuses to be pigeon-holed as a fall/winter trend either.  This summer is full-on fringe everywhere you turn.

This modern take on bohemian should be limited to one item per outfit.  Whether a large or small item is up to you, but don’t go crazy as it can be overpowering.  Easiest way to work fringe into your wardrobe would be with a staple item like shoes or a handbag – add a splash of style to a jeans and tank outfit.  Don ‘t forget Accessories! Fringed earings, necklaces and even bracelets are easily add instant pizzaz.

Fringe is not just for casual attire, it can also be sexy.  It graced this seasons runways in collections from Hermes to Vivienne Westwood both of which are known to make a woman look and feel like a seductress.  Fringed dresses and tanks are perfect for this look and if you really like to push boundaries opt for a sheer version and pair with a nude tank.

I think I seriously need to step my blog game up. Canada’s leading specialty retailer – Holt Renfrew, is payomg homage to the social media junkies who loyally give them free marketing on a daily basis… the bloggers!

Holt Renfrew creative director, John Gerhardt released a statement calling bloggers “the fashion world’s new celebrities” and goes on to say Holt’s is honored to celebrate online style leaders.

The six choosen bloggers are:

The Holt’s windows are up right now so make your way down and check them out.  They really did an amazing job with these.  I’ll even go as far as to say they are some of the best windows I have ever seen in Vancouver to-date.

I wonder what the Crystal window would look like?  Perhaps me sitting in the midst of a pile of designer swag holding an empty wallet… and smiling.

Double rings are something I’ve been noticing a lot more on people. Ms. Brittany Spears wears a pink flower and a turquoise ring on her 3rd and 4th fingers. Like Brittany most people just put two rings close together. This lil gem is an official double ring, and personally my favourite trend of the month.

You might lose a bit of functionality having two fingers strapped together, but love the way it looks. Isn’t that always the case in fashion though? Every once in a while something is so gorgeous it’s worth a little pain, fashion kills!

I don’t want to see you out rocking your little black dress this summer.  I know it’s a staple for every woman’s closet…I know it’s perfect to throw on when you’re not sure exactly what to wear…I know you can change the look around by playing with shoes and accessories…And I know what you really mean when you list off all the reasons of why you wear it – because it’s easy.

This summer we’ve been given another easy option, but it’s not black.  It’s still a solid, but with options from every color of the rainbow, so you are sure to find one to compliment your skin tone, hair color, accessories – you name it.

Hot summer trends which are appropriate to wear to any event you would your LBD:

• Asymmetrical one-shoulder (I’m loving this ‘Bonny Cotton Dress” from FCUK)
• Mod inspired (think Mary Tyler Moore)
• Flirty Tiers
• Bubble Hem
• Grecian Goddess (empire waist, beautiful embellishments)

Indulge yourself and give one a try!  You may even grow to love it more than your little black dress.

I’m having fun playing around with blue nail polish. Blue has been big since fall runways, but I find that blue always looks a little, um, pasty on most people unless you have some tan. So now that I do – bring it on. Tonight I’ve got an outfit planned with light, aqua print sundress and turquoise accessories – so why not add in the turquoise nails with Sally Hansen #23.

On the more original spectrum for names (I hate when companies only use digits) and shades of blue, I’m going to rotate with Loreal’s ProBrights ‘Electric Blue (a deep bright blue), and OPI’s new Paige Denim pairing, No Room for the Blues (a perfect in between blue).

Heads up! rumor Chanel’s next ‘it color’ to be released this October is a mint jade nail polish. Pretty close to sea foam green….jury is not in on this one yet.

This is a great summer contest from Tory Burch – I’m entering! Ironically, I’m not crazy about the shoes, which are her signature items. I’ve got a one shirt in particular that I love, and my closet would be happy with more Tory Burch.
