Turning Pink

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

o_glossSmashbox O-Gloss is the best lipgloss ever. Big statement huh?

I’m sure you have heard of all the customizable makeup out there whether it be foundations, blush, lipgloss etc.  Smashbox has come out with a line of customizable “O” products and they are amazing.  All products go on clear and then react to your own skin chemistry for your personal shade of perfect pink.

They use an exclusive Goji Berry-C Complex which is packed full of ginkoba biloba, pomegranate seed antioxidants, revitalizing marine botanicals and avocado oil for added shine.  It gets Sephora’s exclusive ‘natural seal,’ and is a ‘Best of Sephora’ 2008 winner.  They also do a lip plumping version, as well as a blush with the same formula complex.

Now all of that info is great, but does it work?  Absolutely, my end result was one I didn’t think I could achieve without lipstick.  I LOVE mine… my lips have never been so perfectly pink.

hp-mini vivienne tamIs there such thing as a fashionable laptop?

Most would say of course!  The Mac!  But amazing as they are, does the sleek polished appearance count as a fashion statement or is it simply a trend?

In an attempt to win over the PC fashionista’s in their market, Hewlett-Packard teamed up with Vivienne Tam to make a limited edition laptop that will make you want to trade your apple for a peony.

The peony design is what really stood out in Tam’s Spring 2009 collection and is what makes the HP Mini Vivienne Tam edition a true statement piece.  (And really isn’t that what fashion is all about, making a statement?)  This notebook has a 10.1″ display, weighs in at only 2.45lbs and is merely 1″ thick.  It retails for $699.00USD which will also get you a matching Vivienne Tam sleeve or you could opt for the exclusive tech-chic bundle which includes a matching Vivienne Tam scarf and tote for $899.00USD.

I Heart Trends

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

i amI was given a heart shaped locket for my 30th birthday this year. I always wear this really cool vintage heart shaped ring. Now I’m just loving hearts for jewelery.

Gucci has heart shapes all over their on their new line of bags. Hearts are main logos for this new fashion social awareness ad campaign for the Argentina clothing company Ona Saez promoting “I am what I am”…I am seeing a trend here. I heart trends. I heart hearts.

Ps- You all know snake skin is in, from Shelley’s earlier post this month, and there is a heart on this Gucci messenger bag. I’ve mentioned 4 trends in this post. I heart fashion. I heart theitlists.

Ready Aim Wear

To take an outfit to the next level of fabulous – it’s all about the jackets lately.  Fall must-have was the boyfriend blazer and although we’ve seen it transition into spring in pastels and white, there is a new contender in the game.balmain jacket

The Military Jacket no doubt is this seasons must have.  It seems everything that hit the runway for the Balmain S/S ‘09 collection has quickly developed into a trend and one amazing embellished jacket comes to mind whenever I think of that collection.

bebe vestBut really who can afford that jacket?  Military jackets are popping up as we speak.  I snatched up an amazing white one at the Flare Magazine FCUK event which was undoubtedly my best purchase of the season.

And for summer days when you can’t justify rocking 3/4 sleeves a great variation is the military vest.  I saw an amazing one at Bebe that I’ve not been able to get off my mind.  Pair with a silk racerback tank, light denim skinny ankle jeans and some fierce stilettos and be prepared to be ‘fired’ with compliments.

June “it” Girl – Josie Maran

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

josie maran.pngYou’ll likely recognize Josie Maran as the face behind so many Maybelline ads. We’re picking her as an “it girl” because of her new contributions to making us all beautiful - not by slick ads but with some green makeup.

The birth of her first child jumpstarted Josie’s latest endeavor – Josie Maran Cosmetics. Josie explains, “Becoming a mother inspired me to take a look at my life and ask, “What can I do for the world? How can I contribute?” Having spent so many hours in the makeup chair, Josie was ready to create her own signature eco-friendly line.

P.S. Her Argan oil has had buzz for awhile – but I’m told a visit to Whole Foods will also score you some good Argan oil. But now she’s done a bronzer version worth checking out.

Self-Tan Secrets

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

This year I’m all about saving myself the sun damage and better self-tanning. Here are the best tips we’ve found:

Exfoliate – hands down tip #1: This smooths your skin and makes your tan last longer. But keep in mind salt scrubs can dehydrate and cause tanner to absorb unevenly.

How To Apply: Apply to clean dry skin and always work from the bottom up, remembering to wash hands with soap and water in between applications. Use a circular motion to blend lotions.

Don’t Forget Your Back: Dot some self tan lotion in the middle of a long strip of saran wrap. While holding both ends, smooth over out of reach areas on your back.

For the Feet: With a small amount of self tanner, blend carefully. Then blend some of your regular body moisturizer around the edges of toes and ankles to prevent dark spots.spray tan tips.png

Start Off Easy – then Depth: Get a believable base with a gradual tanner like Jergens or Aveda cream. And then build a caramel hue with an aerosol. Our pick is Lindsay Lohan’s Sevin Nyne. I told you about this spray tan before – loving it – and give it total props!

P.S. Don’t forget – you still need to always remember to apply SPF – self tanners don’t take replace sun protection

alice + olivia does “it” for less

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

alice+olivia_paylessNot to be outdone by the big boys in the emerging trend of high-end designer doing a mid to low-end line (who didn’t gasp when they found out Alexander McQueen was doing a line for Target), Payless has also added some heavy hitters to their roster.

The limited edition summer 2009  Payless collections will feature designs by  alice + olivia, not to mention some other great appearances from Abaete, and Lela Rose.

Now I personally have never bought too hard into the Payless designer lines with the exception of a few pieces, but the alice + olivia collection is quite simply put – on point.

In true alice + olivia fashion the wedge ran rampant throughout the collection along with platform sandals, chuck taylor inspired sneakers and they even did some really trendy hobo bags and clutches.

All items ran under $40 and the best part is… you would never even know it.

Gone Swimming Summer 2009

Monday, June 15th, 2009

tommy hot dot.pngReady to hit the beach? If monokinis and bandage wrap swimsuits aren’t for you – - here are some great swimwear finds for this summer:

I’m an avid Banana Republic shopper, but their sister store Tommy Bahamas not so much – except when it comes to swimwear. I have two from here.

Love this Hot Dot Tie Front & High Waist Sash Pant (these bottoms rock for hidding a bit of a belly). Another pick are their Sunkissed Solids with Torquise rings matched with Hipster bottoms. I recommend this melon berry color. Hot!

Next up – this Milly Key Largo. This richly ruched bandeau bikini top in an ethnic-inspired print is beach ready.

And one final share – I always hit jackpot with Sea Folly. Check out the Mondrian and Lava Lounge – my pics are both in the Gerbera color combo.

Obakki F/W ‘09

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Picture 3.pngWe recently caught the showing of the Obakki Fall/Winter ‘09 collection and as always this Canadian fashion house not only nails the collection, but the atmosphere at all their events.

At this particular showing the guests enjoyed an open bar and complimentary appetizers as we schmoozed and IMG_1810.JPGlistened to a guest dj set the mood in the venue (which was super upbeat and lively).

You just wanted to reach out and grab the models to see if the materials actually felt as luxurious as they looked.  Obakki’s biggest selling point is the amazing fabrics they use. This collection had a strong focus on wool plaids offset by satins and silks.  The contrast of heavy coats with wide sleeves over structured shift dresses was right on the money… and money well spent.

While at the show one of us did a little shopping from the current S/S 2009Silk Shift Dress. The ties scoop across the front and hang back over the shoulders. It’s sexy, and simple.

Distress “it” Yourself

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

One of the hottest trends this spring/summer ‘09 has been the ripped jeans gracing the runways in collections from Balmain to Diesel.

distressed denimObsessed with this look, I quickly went out to hunt down the best pair.  I found some great distressing, but inevitably left with none. What I did leave with was inspiration.

It seemed ridiculous to me to fork out over $300 for a pair of new ripped jeans when I have so many old pairs in my closet. It’s so easy to DIY with a few tools found around the house.

Grabbing scissors and cutting away is a beginners mistake. You need:

  • cheese grater
  • #50-#30 grit sandpaper,
  • sharp knife
  • wooden block to work on.

The placement of your distressing is your call, but the grater & sandpaper allows you to achieve that worn out look by going against the grain – as opposed to a pair that looks like you were being chased by Edward Scissorhands.  Get creative by splashing your jeans with bleach or splatters of paint.  Throw then in the wash a couple times before wearing and your good to go!
