Milan Fashion Week: Just Cavalli FASHION-O-LIC (read full article)

Roberto Cavalli’s collection for H&M is set to debut this coming November, but that didn’t stop him from showing his one-of-a-kind Spring 2008 collection of his Just Cavalli line, during the Milan Fashion Week.

The collection, named “La Mia Africa”, was inspired by African art and incorporates ethnic, exotic and urban looks. Bright colors such as fuchsia, aqua, yellow and red along with bold geometric patterns created a very modern tribal look. The pieces also incorporate elements of ceremonial dress including fringes, patchwork and leather.

Fergie was a no show at the MTV Music Awards despite having some of the most popular songs and videos of the year, and won female artist of the year.

The Dutchess of Pop, Fergie, might have been too busy launching her new purses. Fergie has designed a line of bags for Kipling, the Belgian brand originally inspired by The Jungle Book.

Raging “it” Rouge - Scarlet Trend

» Filed under beauty on September 25, 2007

Once the tan fades it’s time to resurrect 1940’s glamour. Scarlet lips and arched brows and everything Veronica Lake. At Gucci, Valentino and Roberto Cavalli, red lipstick made as much of a statement as the clothes on fall catwalks - and it’s sure to do the same in the realworld too.

M.A.C. ‘At the Bay,’ Revlon ‘Scarlet Velvet,’ Loreal ‘British Red,’ or Lancome ‘Red Stiletto’ are some of the season’s best reds for your lips. And if you can’t get your red fix on your lips then balance out with equally bold finger nails with something like the new Maison Eros Greatti ‘Dominatrix.’

Swing Baby Swing ~ theitlists.com

br_mini-trench.jpgI constantly forget to how good the right coat can make a girl feel. It’s such a critical part to a look - it sets your first and last impression so why wouldn’t it be important.  Yet, it’s constantly where so many girls trim their pennies.

One of the best purchases that I have made for fall is a Banana Republic A-Line jacket - a mini-trench.  Love! the buckles on the wrists. Last month I told you to keep an eye out for this swing style coat, and I shared two favs with little cap sleeves. Now the stores are rampant with the full sleeve outwear versions.

Anther Banana Republic offering is this mod swing coat. And to pair up beneath either of them is this s whisper-weight spun silk jersey top has ruched shoulders and a shirred empire waist. The silk knit feels soooo good  and gives the right amount of drape under your swing coat. br-mod-swing.jpg br_silk-knit-top.jpg

Nothing puts a smile on my face like polka dots. This happy motif is fun, feminine and whimsical. And really, quite classic. But these Spring polka dots are modern; some of them metallic, some of the digitized, all of them Fab.

It’s not grey, but a trendy addition from Joe is the Urban Tote ($19) A fabulous multi-pocket tote with plenty of compartments for all of your goodies.

Edgy Eco - Nicole Bridger ~ theitlists.com

Nicole Bridger’s eco friendly collection is being touted as one of the ‘ones to watch’ at the upcoming BC Fashion Week. Her collection plays with shape and detail, each piece balancing offbeat basics with a mild avant garde undertone.

Bridger’s fashion tour begain with an apprenticeship with Vivienne Westwood, the Queen of Punk design and one of the most important designers of the 20th century. She then returned home to Vancouver and hooked up with Chip Wilson, founder of Lululemon, to co-create the organic and sustainable clothing brand OQOQO (pronounced OhKoKo).  Having learned the ins and outs of sustainability she’s now launched her own self-titled line, Nicole Bridger.

Shades of Grey ~ theitlists.com

» Filed under fashion on September 18, 2007

In fashion it’s not always black and white, but shades of in between. The color star of this fall season…GREY is the new black. Music to this gals eyes because grey had has always been a fav. Deep warm greys, cuddle up and be glam’ greys, gun metal to charcoal greys.

grey-trend.jpg

Grey is a neutral shade that has a soft sophisticated edge. Evoke the 1940s cocktail era in a little grey dress, or pair with with brown for a lux look, or for a shot of color lace with red accessories - especially red leather gloves.

Ah Hoy! Ride A Pony ~ theitlists.com

Red Coat.jpgEvery season I adore Chulo Pony more and more! Looks like this Vancouver-based women’s clothing line is really all grown up - from its designs to its persona.

Their Fall theme revolves around 16th century pirate and princess, Claire O’Grady, who had a penchant for plundering ships for clothing and leaving the gold behind. She married twice before her 20th year, each time gaining title to her new husband’s castle and then kicking him out. Her father said she could never go to sea because her long hair would get caught in the rigging, so she cut it off, earning herself the nickname "The Shorn One."

While I might not chop my hair, I will follow her shawsh-buckling lead in this red coat (2078). Funnel neck and trendy bell sleeves are stylish. Stunning! Cleverly combining old-fashioned elegance with tough girl chic, ornate antique lace blouses with delicate silk covered buttons along with exquisite cotton sateen empire waist dresses and ruffle neck tunics provide an undeniable contrast to shrunken wool plaid pleated mini-skirts and double twill sailor pants. Check out my other picks: 4015, 2075, 5089

You can find Chulo Pony at are Nordstrom, QLLC, Life of Riley, Miss Coquette, Spank, Suasion, or you can shop online at their site.

Fashion Week, Monique Lhuillier COUTURE IN THE CITY (read full article)

mon11.jpg

As the Spring 2008 NY fashion week comes to a close, I give you the Monique Lhuillier collection. Utterly fabulous.

In the first part of the show, cream colored frocks dominated the runway, then dusty blue, grey, black and white dresses also came out to play. The only prints present were polka dots and all of her colors were muted, making the cuts and fabris really pop on this runway.

Tiesto DJ Record in Canada

This last trip to Bali was one of my best trips yet!! But there was one teeny little, half second pang of regret on something I was missing back in Vancouver.

When I’m not blogging I’m involved in Vancouver’s fashion or music scene. One of my many gigs is PR for concerts - such as Tiesto: Elements of Life at GM Place.

Now you don’t have to be a jaded raver to appreciate this man’s talent. Come on he opened the Athen’s Olympics…and now set Canada’s record for playing to the largest electronica music audience. But my dear friend Kevin Shui opened for Tiesto so that technically makes him the “first” dj to do so, but semantics right.

Anyway, I did all the pre-concert PR work but didn’t get to be there for show day and missed the actual concert. Here’s what I missed…

White Watch It

When I was in Taipei for a layover I made the most of duty free shopping. First there was the biggest counter of shu uemera. Fun!! But where I got really stuck was the watches. Maybe it’s my 80’s highschool adoration of Swatches, but they still always hold a soft spot for me - - but whenever I’m at a store lots of whacky styles, yet not quite me.

yls141g_white_ceramic_HOR.jpg

Jackpot! I finally got a Swatch after so many years. A white enamel Swatch no less.
I kept on meaning to pick up some of the enamel bracelets that are still in, but just never got around to it. This is even better and still fills the trend.  It’s very Michael Kors like, but enough Swatch style too. Love it!

And P.S. what better way to show off my tan that fades with every day home. Want a matching his and hers, but not too matchy matchy? This one by Fossil is a stylin’ white one for men.

Home Sweet Home

» Filed under rambling on September 10, 2007

I’m hope, tanned & jetlagged!

Not all of Indonesia is magical, but Bali sure is. I love the people and the extremes it has to offer. Our friends Taro & Kristy celebrated their vows in a Buddhist ceremony on the beach at sunset (complete with ice sculptures - very decadent in that heat, and DJ Tsuyoshi).

Best is the ability for this fashionista to escape to the thatch hut bungalows on the sleepy little island of Nusa Lembongan, but jump on the hydrofoil to the main island and catch yet another day’s sunset at Super-model, Alessandra Ambrosio’s closing party for the season. There was enough paparazzi at the wedding, clubs, and other parties our crew did - so I didn’t want to look like a big boob snapping pictures myself, but wouldn’t you know the one shot I took of Alex (bro to the groom), Alessandra, and Rama (local celeb) - Alex’s eyes are shut!
