Isn’t “it” Pretty - Eyelet Trend ~theitlists.com

» Filed under fashion on July 31, 2007

I called it that eyelet was going to be a trend - called it a few times.

I had no idea where it’d percolated to until a recent wedding weekend spent away with some of the gals. Adorable, girly white eyelet dresses where everywhere. Thank god my friends know how to accessorize to make themselves stand apart.

My contribution was a cream colored eyelet sundress, which worked from gift opening day festivities to a mini-golf date with the hubbie. Didn’t help my putting, but I looked cute.

If you’re fearful of ending up too matchy, matchy to others - then keep the trend in other formats. I love, love these chocolate brown eyelet shorts from Anthropology. Scroll here for them, and some other picks.

Read “it” - Eat Pray Love

» Filed under guilty pleasures on July 30, 2007

eatpraylove.jpg Her wit and flourish is the best beach read ever!

I’m reading a book that is too good to wait until I’m done, to share with you. But I have it on very good accord that it ends well. I have already given away four copies, and keep on having to replace mine to finish reading.

Eat Pray Love - Elizabeth Gilbert this book is, well, think Sex and the City, but with a spiritual twist. Insert dynamic writer for GQ, who at 31 realizes that she shouldn’t be married and isn’t ready for the baby plan in front of her. She leaves it all, and goes on a search for everything. To Italy to "eat," India to "pray," and then to Bali "to fall in love."

Maybe it’s my love of both Italy and Indonesia (especially with my pending trip to Bali in a few weeks) that have me biased. But damn this is a good read. One minute she pings me with laughter, the next stuns me and makes me ask "how’d she get into my head and capture my experiences and thoughts - but better than I could have?!"

Her self-deprecating humor make this an original travel and life journal: recalling the first time she attempted to speak directly to God, she says, "It was all I could do to stop myself from saying, ‘I’ve always been a big fan of your work." I’m now a fan of Gilbert’s work too.

FOUND: Lindsay Lohan’s Grey Handbag STILETTO JUNGLE  (read full article)

Lindsay Lohan wearing a Rebecca Minkoff handbag
It does kind of sting to write yet another feature on the trainwreck formerly known as Lindsay Lohan, but the girl’s got style despite her self-destructive tendencies.

Want to steal Lindsay Lohan’s grey leather handbag style? She’s carting the new "Matinee" Bag from Rebecca Minkoff. This super soft handbag comes in a ever-so-slightly oversized rectangle shape with tassel and bronze details. Ok, but it’s the color that really makes this handbag hot

Roger Vivier Sunglasses

Neon had almost become a dirty word in the fashion industry. The decade that hypnotized us into thinking scrunchies and shoulder pads were hip was founded on the electrifying hues. Now it’s 2007 and the fall runway is beaming with punches of hot pink, lime, electric blue and many others.

Bag To Have: Coach Camilla FAB SUGAR  (read full article)

It’s utterly luxurious in appearance but not too insane in price - and that is such a rarity in the fashion world. I adore everything about it: the rich brown hue, the grommet details, the turnlock closure and the size. And unlike so many logo-encrusted bags, it’s understated, and it doesn’t scream "Coach."

Grey-it Trend ~w.theitlists.com

» Filed under fashion on July 25, 2007

Love grey. Grey walls. Grey clothes. Grey cars. No melancholy tendencies here, I just find it plain comforting, and classy. And paired with summer white jeans they are a solid trend.

Looks like there’s a realm of celebs that also think warm grey with crisp white is a good summer trend. Get a kimono sleeve sweater like J-Lo’s at bananarepublic.com. Nab a simple cardigan like Hilary’s at urbanoutfitters.com, or belted like Kate Middelton’s pick.

Fekkai Goes Beyond the Beach ~ w.theitlists.com

» Filed under beauty on July 24, 2007

fekkai-beachwaves.jpgCrappy weather delayed me from sharing an overdue find. ‘A shame since I’m now using Fekkai  beyond the beach!

My ongoing summer hair battle, until Fekkai gave me two solutions… Summer means a season of my deflated locks - these pathetic kinda, almost, not quite waves. Bless fine hair. If I style it flat then I get frizz, and there’s NO way I can get the thick body and waves that seem to only exist in the tropics.

Trying Fekkai Beach Waves on dry hair really did produce the promised ‘touseled, windswept beach waves’. Style me sexy! I’ve swapped Fekkai tales with some of the gals and they echo - don’t waste your money on other wave products. This is not only the star of this summer hair line, but out waves all others too.

Also love the Fekkai Zero-Humidity Frizz Control (an alcohol-free mist that seals the cuticle) which smoothed my less dramatic natural waves, or glammed up my beach pony tail.

Wash& Wear spray gives mouth to mouth (minus the speedo) to my limp, overworked locks … without water. And Fekkai Sun Banadana adds an extra dose of SPF.

Once you past the whole styling dilemma it’s hard to remember tall the while Fekkai protects from the harsh sun, chlorine and saltwater. Bonus is the light scent, not pungent enough to make you smell like sun-oil but enough to be reminiscent of the beach.

Nab yours at Holt Renfrew or  Sephora before summer stock is gone!

060707_nyandco_bangles.jpgEver since Drew Barrymore literally went elbows deep in gold (bangles that is), bangles have again become a must have accessory.

Bangles, that word makes me laugh if you say it a few times in a row.

Since popsicle colors like tangerine and turquoise are important colors what better way to dip them into your wardrobe than with New York & Company’s enamel bracelet. Not only are they in fun colors, but they come in both gold or silver rims.

I’ve also spotted some similar finds at Arden B, Coach, and for the high-end check out the graphic, enamel Hermes.  For more colors and brands check out WhoWhatWear.

Mike & Chris Bailey Bubble HoodieQ: I work in film, as in a film crew.  I work with mostly men, so I always stick to the ’safe’: jeans, t-shirts, jackets, and sneakers.  But there are times where I want to look more chic, without having them teasing me.  Any ideas?

A:  To look more chic without having the guys tease you, you can keep the same fashion formula but update the pieces.

Instead of wearing plain jeans, opt for a fitted style with an interesting, flattering rinse.  Style Tip?  You can’t go wrong with a dark blue rinse–or a grey rinse for extra style points. Read More.

Mixing “it” Up Pear-fectly ~ theitlists.com

» Filed under guilty pleasures on July 18, 2007

pear-vodka.jpgPomegranates over. Pears are hip.

When it comes to cocktails - Pears are "the next big flavor." They’re a fresh, sexy sip.

Any fashionista knows the lure of a good Cosmo or Chambard is that it’s well balanced. Not too strong in liquor and not too strong in sweet or sour.

Grey Goose La Poire is the the pear vodka preference - because it’s a natural pear flavor and damn fine vodka. Absolut Pears is a nice option, but they seem to think pear is a stronger candy treat.

But I warn you - - they go down a bit too easy. So if you’re now sold the pear is the new pomegranate try these recipes:

Tuscan Pear

  • 2 parts Grey Goos La Poire
  • 1 part fresh-squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 part simple syrup
  • 1 part OJ
  • 2 or 3 pieces of crystalized ginger
  • Mint leaves and thin pear slice for garnish

Pear Fizztini

  • 2 parts Grey Goose L’Poire Vodka
  • 1 part club soda  OR sparkling wine
  • splash of pear nectar
  • Pear slice for garnish

Bohemian Fashion is Out!  OMIRU (read full article)

Retro Knit TubeYou said:  With 69% of the vote against it, Bohemian Fashion is Out.

Omiru’s take: While the loose, carefree feel of bohemian fashion seems like a fine idea to us in theory, in practice, this perennial warm weather trend just doesn’t look as good as it should.  Style tip?  If you love bohemian fashion, wear it in moderation.  Pair your hippie-chic tunic with a structured pair of pants.  Or wear your flowy dress with a sophisticated handbag and shoes.  Oh, and buy it on the cheap–this is a fleeting trend, at best.

Designer Spotlight: Lover FAB SUGAR  (read full article)

A serious sweet spot for Aussie design - and Lover is no exception. Designer duo Susien Chong and Nic Briand started out in 2001 with the idea that while they have contrasting tastes - she for the romantic and ethereal and he for the loud and irreverent - together they could combine to make something Fab!

And Fab it is - Lover has adorable little dresses, a knack for high-waisted denim, and lots and lots of plaid. And with a catchy brand name like Lover it’s even harder to resist!

Shoshana “it” ~ theitlists.com

» Filed under fashion on July 11, 2007

shoshanna3.jpgShoshana first came on the scene as Jerry Seinfeld’s bodacious girlfriend, then made many girl’s life prettier with fun handbag. Now for a few years she’s broadened into a full women’s collection, but I always found her design’s pretty ‘mwah.’ Translate that to a "whatever’ kind of grunt.

But! Her latest Spring Summer 2007 collection is one of the best round ups of tunics and smocks. Which I can’t get enough of - my closet is full. This Shoshanna tunic is an InStyle find see here.

There are so many trend picks that you can even play one of my favorite games that usually only works with magazines - go to this page: http://shoshanna.com/Spring2007/index.html

And run thru each line of three and pick your favorite one of each set. That’s how I know a clothing line is grand - when I can find that many tops and dresses that I’d want to buy.

Shoshana is a bit of tunic, smock and dress jackpot!

Gladiator Goddess “it” ~theitlists.com

So if you’re not doing the maxi, and are all about the shorter hemline’s this season then here’s your shoe tip. Ken Downing, VP and Fashion Director for Neiman Marcus, hand picks the gladiator sandal as the best of the bunch to ground your look no matter how short you go.

zanotti1.jpggladiator.jpg
061007_zanotti_b.jpg  zanotti3.jpg

I’m not sure about the Marc Jacobs jelly gladiator (I think Shoewawa summarizes my perplexity) or the thigh high versions, but for Giueseppe Zanotti is hands down the man that knows this trend.

I could unleash my inner Greek goddess in any of these, but my pick for this summer trend is the brown patent, six strap version flats - bottom left.

Static Strokes ~ theitlists.com

» Filed under beauty on July 9, 2007

Goody-Jojoba.pngBeauty tools for when you’re on the run! Love’em. Goody just came up with a hairbrush that already has styling products infused in the bristles.

Instead of creating static, each stroke deposits a small amount of moisturizing jojoba. Goody’s add + shine jojoba oil infused brush is a quick fix  if you have dry or damaged hair with split ends. The oil repairs and fortifies hair, adding shine and preventing split ends. And if dandruff is more your damage, the line  includes a brush infused with copper to help kill the bacteria.

With 20 strokes a day, the oil in the brush lasts about six months. And the only downside is don’t use the brush when blow-drying since the heat melts the bristles.
