Little Pink Dress (LPD) “it”

» Filed under fashion on April 30, 2007

Lauren-pink.jpgEven The Daily claims the LPD (little pink dress) trend is official. Is it because shorter or tartier flies a fit under the radar in girly pink hues?

I’m spotlighting this trend with a favorite pick of mine, Lauren Conrad’s pink frock. I’m a closet fan (I watch it when my husband’s not home) of The Hills and one of it’s stars, Lauren. Love her halter dress by Charlotte.

The LPD is showing up at all the star studded events. From chiffons to pastel prints its the new gotta-get dress this spring. But don’t put away your little black dress yet, just make space for your new pink one!

Hand “it” Over

» Filed under beauty on April 25, 2007

GLoves-bottle.jpgI previously reviewed a shielding lotion, Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion, and for the past few weeks I’ve been trying another one, Gloves in A Bottle.

What they say: "Instead of attempting to replace natural oils, Gloves In A Bottle forms a web or bond with the dead skin cells that works like an invisible pair of gloves."

I really does have the soft feeling like it’s gloving your hands, but it’s not thick or greasy feeling like most rich creams. On top of that it’s fragrance-free and hypoallergenic.

I’ve been trying to tell what the difference is between the two lotions. Turns out the Skin MD Natural has finer ingredients, and therefore more expensive. It’s also because of those finer ingredients I like to use it on my face, while I wouldn’t do that with this product.

I like Gloves in A Bottle - especially with the lesser price tag - if you are just using it for hands and body; Skin MD Natural if you can afford multi-uses.

Fashionistas Empower “it”

» Filed under guilty pleasures on April 24, 2007

Guilty! I often forget to focus on the lifestyle part of this blog. Let me share a huge "it" thing to do to make the world a better place.

My NY galpal,  Andrea shared with me a great cause www.kiva.org. It’s a program to give interest free, micro loans to entrepreneurs around the world trying to change their lives and lift themselves out of poverty.

Read the story behind the person, and what the business is they’re trying to do. See how much money they have raised towards their goal. Then you get emails updating you as the person is paying back their loan. Caution: they do warn you to diversify - so give to a few different people to hedge your odds of getting paid back.

Kiva.png

Right now the loans on the site are mostly for Norweigan and Samoa projects, but that changes all the time. We helped a woman in Ghana with her farm, and today we added to this woman’s shop. (I’m prone to giving woman power!)

Helping others, help themselves. And feeling damn good about how you empower them.  That’s a cause I’m all about, and really an "un"guilty pleasure.

Patch of Freedom - Nippies

» Filed under fashion on April 23, 2007

Bristol6′s Nippies provide a little patch of freedom for the girls. With these fashionable, fun nipple covers you can wear what you like and be confident you’re not showing more than you want.

You too can feel like a Pussy Cat Doll strutting in pink and black hearts in the "Sonia" collection, or more subtle and stylin’ with Pucci in the "Emilio" collection (this is my pic).

The best is that these are water ready - whether that’s the beach or surviving a bit of ‘glow’ on the dancefloor.

Sure these are ideal for wearing under a sexy little top on the martini circuit, but I aslo can’t help wondering where these were when we were riding our bikes on the playa at Burning Man.  Where going braless (not topless - I’m much too modest for that) we got chaffed where no women should be chaffed.

White Done Right  COUTURE IN THE CITY (read full article)

Who cares about the time honored tradition "thou shalt not wear white before labor day" (or is it after?). I will be the first to admit that I am not a big fan of the whole white jeans look…it reminds me too much of middle school and is just way too risky when Aunt Dot comes to visit, if you know what I mean.

However, there is nothing more polished than a crisp white dress and nothing more stand out and feminine than a snazzy white suit. But you have to know how to rock it.

Avril’s New, New Look PAPIERDOLL (read full article)

Avril Lavigne

We told you Avril was our "it" girl for April, but Papierdoll casts a bit of doubt:

Lavigne in Harper’s Bazaar a year or so ago. She was touting a more feminine/womanly look. In the Harper’s spread she was in Gucci, Manolo and other non-teeny bopper attire. She stated: I’m starting to feel more feminine. I’m getting into hair and makeup and image. That’s the best part of being a girl.

Fast forward to the release of her new album (4/26), The Best Damn Thing, and we have the new, new Avril Lavigne this time she’s feminine but, maybe possibly less womanly.

Benefit “it” Beauty Tips

» Filed under beauty on April 18, 2007

The beauty mavens behind Benefit (one of my favs)* recently shared their quirky-cool pointers in the April Glamour.

  • A trend that needs to go: Glittery gloss. Rich berry is much more sophisticated and sexy.
  • Their star product: Benetint.
  • They’re dying to get their hands on: The Olsen Twins. So they could give them a makeover.
  • Underrated shades: Purple! Brings out all eye colors, and brightens eyes. Navy too.
  • Carry in your purse: A firm toothbrush for scrubbing crude off purse or shoes.
  • Perfect lip shade: Look at the color inside your lip and buy a shade deeper.

April “it” Girl - Avril Lavigne

» Filed under it girl on April 17, 2007

Avril Lavigne has gone from a girl that couldn’t decide on her own what hoodie she should wear "um, the blue one or the red one," to a glammed up woman.

Okay she still rocks out in a hoodie now and again, but now it’s from her collection of many. "I have a million hoodies. I layer them over everything - from cute T-shirts and jeans to dresses [via Lucky Magazine]."

Still our littlle Skat8R girl is all grown up and her new album, The Best Damn Thing, hits stores TODAY. With the spunky hit, Girlfriend, I finally have a song to crank and make Saturday dusting bearable - move over ‘Stars are Blind’!  But be ready for love struck vocals (marriage will do that to a girl), and drums from Travis Barker. Listen at Avril’s My Space.

Avril recommends you find your inner wild chid with a few of her favorite things: red nails, black pumps, diamond studs, and Sass & Bide Jeans. And for her new blonde highlights she’s obsessed with Kerastates Age Recharge Deep Conditioner.

Crocodile “it” - Sporty Ballets

» Filed under Specific to Canada, shoes on

Lacoste’s crocodile has become one of fashion’s most famous logos. But not since Ralph Lauren’s polo pony, has any animal been iconic in my closet.

Well now I’ve found some shoes that might just welcome the critter to me, and in the form of a sporty ballet shoe no less.

Lacoste’s Ithia  Search #7317114 at Zappos.com It’s great for jeans and cute dresses.  And when I was on the Lacoste site I also found in the sportswear collection, these cute flats, Lunata.

News for Canada Fans!! Zappos is now shipping to Canada. Icon in the far upper right corner of the US site.

In the Trenches

» Filed under fashion on April 16, 2007

One of the biggest signs of spring? Hands down - the classic khaki trench. With a trench coat, style demands come up clean against unpredictable spring weather.

Celebrities like Fergie, Naomi Watts and Eva Longoria are loving Juicy Couture’s new spring camel trench. I think the sleeve length and buckle are the unique touch to this Juicy.

Fab Sugar spotlites Chloe, and The Budget Fashionista has a denim find; other than that I found the best selection at Blue Fly.

Style runs thru the anatomy of the trench coat.

Once upon a time in Mexico - Buckle “it”

» Filed under jewels on April 10, 2007

The It Lists got a sneak peak at some of Virgins, Saints, & Angels new line.

From Spain to Mexico to Hollywood, stylists and celebrities are flocking to Virgins Saints and Angels for jewelry adorned with powerful images like The Virgin of Guadalupe, Eve, Mary Magdalene, Frida Kahlo and more…

Goddess inspired pieces offered in chains, buckles and pendants and are thought to bring peace to the wearer and give protection from evil spirits; and encourage enlightenment, expression, and creativity by incorporating imagery and symbolism borrowed from life in Mexico.

While more traditional rings, earrings and necklaces are available, but the belt buckles are my fashion picks. The gorgeous mosaic belt buckles are stunning art pieces. Ornate yet feminine they lend a rock ‘n’ roll edge to jeans and tee or all dressed up.

VSA is a staple at boutiques like Lisa Rinna’s belle gray, and spotted on John Galliano, Madonna, Jessica and Ashley Simpson, David Navarro, Robbie Williams, Alanis Morissette, Tim McGraw, and Usher.

King Cone - Fashion Heels

» Filed under shoes on April 9, 2007

The wedge is back, many times in the form of cork, straw, or wood. But the other popular heel is the cone.

Cone heels and platforms popped up last fall. Marc Jacobs and Lanvin were extreme versions on the runways - gorgeous works of arts with crystal balls embedded under the arch. Even Katie Holmes was spotted glamming up with YSL’s version.

Trivia: It’s been two decades since conical heels were staples with Grace Jones, Debbie Harry, and even Princess Diana. But with 80’s revival they’re in full comeback. Life & Style Weekly has another rival in the green (below) and other spring heels.

Now the mainstream is catching up with softer versions - even Marc Jacobs is toned down - and has stylish zippers and metalic running up its trend factor.

And if you can’t manage the height here’s a fun low-cone option in trendy patent. Tom Brown is a winner!

Marie Claire’s Products That Changed Their Lives  SECOND CITY STYLE  (read full article)

Kate_in_a_jar

[Comment: I agree with SCS - ever since Marie Claire went all P.C. it’s just note as grand. I still like the articles about women kicking ass around the world, but it’ now dabbling too much in politics. I loved when they had this one fashion spread with army wives instead of models. But that’s as far as I want politics in my fashion mags.]

Finally they had a feature on the cover that prompted me to buy the issue…"25 Products That Changed Our Lives". I was very intrigued. You know what? It was pretty good. Here are numbers 1-10 (I bore easily) and links to where to purchase them if you can’t purchase at a drugstore.
